Structural repair to an old Victorian Outbuilding (Restoration & Refurbishment) Our Victorian brick barn needed restoration; the roof timbers were failing, pushing the front wall forward. We chose Chris because of his confident, thorough approach to assessing the work. His quote was the most competitive, prompt and fully itemised. Chris visited us before the start to explain the rebuild process and to make sure we were happy. He was always prompt and kept us informed of progress and issues always correcting them keeping costs to the minimum whilst maintaining good solid workmanship. My concern was to keep my woodworking workshop dry during the restoration. Chris planned the work so that his bespoke new roof trusses were fitted in stages, gradually replacing the old, keeping the barn covered the entire time even through snow! Using props he dismantled and rebuilt the entire upper front wall under cover. The barn has a neighbour's commercial workshop attached and overlooks a courtyard used by neighbours for parking. Chris ensured that disruption was minimal. We had neighbours say how pleased they were. We now have a fine looking, solid, beautifully restored barn with original old tiles (many painstakingly sourced and replaced to match by Chris from several reclaim yards). We are delighted. Chris was a real pleasure to work with and certainly impressed the neighbours, one of whom has asked him to quote for work while another made sure to take his business card! Upgrade workshop area in stone building (Restoration & Refurbishment) I began by inviting Chris to look at the planned work. He took plenty of notes and asked a lot of questions before making very helpful suggestions. He let me have a very detailed quotation a few days later and throughout the whole project he has been great at keeping me completely up to date and informed. As usual in a project like this I made a few alterations and additions as I went along and Chris gave me detailed costs each time, so that I was always fully aware of the implications of even quite small additions. Most important for me I think is that the standard of work is very high and Chris pays a great deal of attention to detail. I love the result. I now have a beautiful spacious studio, insulated, ventilated and with absolutely loads of work surfaces and storage. It really exceeds my expectations and dreams and I would be happy to recommend Ryedale Building Services and to use them again. Thank you Chris for all the care and skill that went into my project. Sun Room Extension With reference to Chris Hassell I would highly recommend him as a very competent tradesman. Chris completed a beautiful extension for me earlier on in the year. It not only required building in red sandstone topped by reclaimed brick but it also required solid oak beams to form the roof trusses. Chris took a great deal of trouble to create to right kind of look for the interior of the property and I am very pleased with the results. He also laid a solid wood floor with electric underfloor heating and plastered the room throughout. Part of the work involved taking down an existing exterior solid stone wall. Before removal he made sure that the new extension was water tight and he very carefully removed the stone work to cause the minimum disturbance to the rest of the house. He finished the extension with a slate roof which he brought into line with an existing slate roof. Again this work was of a high standard and it is hard to tell where the new roof starts and the old one finishes so in keeping with the property is his work. Chris always arrived on time when he said he would come and he always made a point of clearing up in a satisfactory manner at the end of the day. He displayed a good working knowledge of a number of skills. I was pleased with the way in which he dealt with the payment terms and his subsequent invoicing procedures. I would certainly be happy for him to complete further works for myself and wish him all the best with his business.. |
